Football is the most popular sport in Mexico and plays an important role in national identity, community life and popular culture. Visitors can expect passionate support, vibrant matchday atmospheres and strong local football traditions throughout the tournament.

As in many countries, Mexican football continues to face challenges relating to discrimination and inclusion. One of the most visible issues has been the use of a homophobic chant directed at opposing goalkeepers during goal kicks. The chant has been widely criticised by LGBTQ+ organisations, anti-discrimination groups, FIFA and football authorities.

In response, FIFA, CONCACAF and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) have introduced financial penalties, stadium sanctions, awareness campaigns and match interruption protocols aimed at eliminating discriminatory behaviour.

Racism, homophobia and other forms of discrimination remain challenges across global football. Visitors who experience or witness discriminatory behaviour during the tournament are encouraged to report concerns through stadium reporting mechanisms, stewards, security staff or local organisers.
