Guadalajara Launches New Airport Transport Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026
Visitors travelling to Guadalajara during the FIFA World Cup 2026 will benefit from a new public transport connection linking the city with Guadalajara International Airport.
The new Line 5 service began operating on 4 June 2026 and is designed to provide a faster and more sustainable alternative to travelling by car along the busy Chapala Highway corridor.
Supporters travelling to Guadalajara during FIFA World Cup 2026 are encouraged to check the latest transport information before travelling. Official updates on Line 5 services, routes and connections are available through SITEUR Guadalajara, while airport transport information can be found via Guadalajara International Airport Transport Guide
The route covers 32 kilometres and connects the airport with key areas across the Guadalajara metropolitan region, including links to the city's wider public transport network. According to local authorities, the new service is expected to reduce travel times for many passengers while helping to ease congestion on one of the city's busiest transport routes.
Line 5 operates using a fleet of fully electric buses equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, USB charging points, luggage storage areas and onboard security systems. Each vehicle can carry up to 128 passengers.
For travellers arriving on early morning flights, services begin at 03:30, with operations continuing until 22:30. During peak periods, buses are expected to run every five minutes along the main corridor.
The new route connects directly with several of Guadalajara's major transport systems, including Mi Macro Periférico and Mi Tren, making it easier for visitors to travel between the airport, city centre, accommodation areas and tournament-related destinations.
Three main routes will operate as part of the system, serving destinations including Expo Guadalajara, Parque Agua Azul and the area surrounding Estadio Akron, one of the host venues for FIFA World Cup 2026.
The launch forms part of wider transport improvements taking place across World Cup host cities as Mexico prepares to welcome supporters from around the world. For visitors travelling to Guadalajara during the tournament, the new service provides an additional public transport option for journeys to and from the airport, while also improving access to key locations across the city.
